New U2 Album To Drop Early 2014 Says Adam Clayton

In a recent interview with Irish station 98 FM’s Dermot and Dave show, Adam Clayton, long-time bassist for seminal rock group U2, has revealed that the band’s forthcoming album, and follow up to 2009's No Line on the Horizon will be released early 2014.

I know, I was surprised to hear they were alive also, but let’s act accordingly. According to Clayton, the album will be a respectable 12-track affair showing that, for old mates, U2 can still bring the heat where it’s needed. Says Clayton of the new album:

“We are still at it. We hope to have it finished very, very soon. And it will be out, oh…sometime early next year… But it’s a very exciting bunch of songs right at the moment… It’s just about to be finished, so it’s hard to know which way they’ll go.”

Who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? According to the bassist, the band have managed to fuse their old sensibilities with the levels of maturity only reached within the past 10 years, resulting in a whole new beast:

“I think it’s a bit of a return to U2 of old, but with the maturity, if you like, of the U2 of the last 10 years. It’s a combination of those two things and it’s a really interesting hybrid,”

So they’re teaching old dogs old tricks as well, I guess. The band could be appealing to the Gen Y of 10 years ago with their new album after apparently bringing in the help of Danger Mouse for their recording sessions at Electric Lady Land studios in New York. Coldplay‘s Chris Martin has also been seen stopping by.
