Looks like 2016 will be the year of the Gorilla.
One of the masterminds behind quirky ‘toon alt-rock band Gorillaz, Jamie Hewlett, has confirmed that he and Blur’s Damon Albarn are working on the group’s next album, and they’re eyeing a 2016 release.
Yep, the future is comin’ on.
“[The record’s due] next year. I’m working on it at the moment, and it’s going very well,” he said.
Hewlett, the man behind the group’s iconic animations, also told the rag that he’s “shutting himself away” to work on the band’s fifth studio LP.
“I’m very excited,” he continued. “I don’t want to say too much about it, but I’m at that phase of experimentation.
“What I try not to do when I’m working in this creative period, the cooking of the mess, is go to other peoples’ exhibitions and look at other peoples’ work. I close my eyes, and don’t want to know what anyone else is doing. Doing that has kind of ruined the creative process for me in the past, and I don’t want to let that happen again.”
In anticipation for the big Gorillaz comeback, Hewlett has also been teasing new artwork on his Instagram page. Check out some of his newest images below.
