New Elliott Smith Documentary ‘Heaven Adores You’ Trailer Unveiled

The first glimpse of a new documentary concerning the life of late musician Elliott Smith titled Heaven Adores You has been unveiled. Directed by Nickolas Rossi and funded by a Kickstarter campaign launched in 2011, the film is the first Smith project to be allowed use of his music.

Readers can check out the trailer for the project, which has been billed as “an intimate, meditative inquiry into the life and music of Elliott Smith,” below to see rare footage, photos, and spoken word audio of the acclaimed songwriter, who died in October 2003 at the age of 34. While officially ruled a suicide, the circumstances surrounding Smith’s death remain unclear and speculation persists.

The film was produced by Smith’s high-school friend Kevin Moyer and features interviews with the artist’s friends, family, and collaborators, including his sister Ashley, Jon Brion, Larry Crane, and Neil Gust. The film will premiere at the San Francisco International Film Festival next week.
