New Babyshambles Album Set For September Release

English rock trio Babyshambles just keep on dishing out the surprises – first came the news that they’d be making the trip to Australia for the first time to play this year’s Splendour In The Grass festival, then they announced a string of headlining shows around the country, and NOW they’ve confirmed that album number 3 is on its way, the group’s first in 6 years.

To be honest, we’re just stoked that frontman Pete Doherty is still alive after his highly-publicised battle with drugs – new music from the group behind songs like F**k Forever and Albion seems like a bonus. And apparently the new record will be a more grown-up affair than its younger siblings, with bassist Drew McConnell revealing:

“I guess the first one sounded like a band falling down the stairs. The first record was like a teenager being yelled at by his mother to get out of his bed and tries to come down for breakfast, and falls down the stairs on the way there because he’s still half asleep. That’s what the first record was.

“The second record was, you know, we’re having our breakfast and we’re kind of composing ourselves. We’re having a cup of coffee. The third record is: we’re walking outside, we’re taking it all in and we’re on our way to work.”

McConnell also suggested that the band’s ability to tour internationally had been previously hindered by Doherty’s legal troubles but that Babyshambles are “jolly excited” to be heading to Australia this July. Their yet-to-be-named third record is currently being mixed and is slated for release in September, so you can sure to hear plenty of new tunes come Splendour time!
