Thrash legends Metallica have made their return to television performance on the Comedy Central satirical program The Colbert Report. The group sat down for an interview and played through two of their most loved tracks, in support of their upcoming 3D concert/live action film, Through The Never.
The group rarely perform on TV, with James Hetfield quipping that there was a performance on US sketch program Saturday Night Live “a hundred years ago or something,” when the band performed to promote their 1997 album Reload. The band appeared to be in good spirits during an interview with Colbert, who professed his love for the group’s much-maligned 2003 album St. Anger, or at the very least for the album’s cover, and went on to discuss, among other things, “anger viagra.”
The band then performed stellar renditions of their classics For Whom the Bell Tolls, from their 1984 album Ride The Lightning, and Master of Puppets from their 1986 album of the same name. Through The Never is slated for an Australian release on Thursday, 10th October, and will be accompanied by a soundtrack, which will serve as a live best-of compilation.
