Melbourne Band’s Music Video Deemed “Too Political” For ‘Rage’

A music video by Melbourne rockers TTTDC has reportedly been rejected by ABC music program Rage, due to its very political (but super-entertaining) content.

TTTDC released the video for their song Reiterate (below) in February, and, after sending it into Rage in the hope of picking up airtime, the band say the clip has was not aired on the show because it is “too political”.

The music video features fictional versions of Prime Minister Tony Abbott, Federal Treasurer Joe Hockey and Education Minister Christopher Pyne, wearing masks and causing trouble around town. The trio park in a disabled spot, prevent someone from accessing ABC News, bash up a cyclist, and even snort coke with $50 bills while together enjoying a relaxing bubble bath.

In a statement posted earlier this month to Facebook (below), TTTDC say they emailed a Rage employee about the video three times over four months until they received a reply, which they have also shared online.

The supposed email from Rage states that the program believes the video can come across as “politically partisan”, and so hasn’t made it onto the playlist.

“We have a responsibility as the ABC to remain unbiased, which means there must be solid justification for playing a clip that could be perceived as politically partisan (such as this one),” the statement reads.

“In this I don’t think the video or song are strong enough to justify its addition to the playlist. The reason for the delay is that I wanted to get the opinions of a few of my colleagues, and they all agreed.”

Reacting to this, TTTDC have said, “We have been BANNED BY RAGE! Not bad. And I don’t understand her fear of being perceived as politically partisan if Rage DID play the clip, but no such fear if Rage does NOT play the clip.”

Maybe they would have had more luck if they just followed John Safran’s lead, and enlisted a dog to film their Rage-bound music video.

TTTDC’s second album, Acronym, was released online today. The band are launching the record with a show at Melbourne’s Tote Hotel on Saturday, 23rd May.

In the meantime, bask in the political power of the Reiterate video, below, and see if you think it’s Rage-worthy.
