Megadeth Lose Two Members In A Matter Of Hours

On Tuesday, 25th November, Megadeth lost two band members within hours of each other, with guitarist Chris Broderick announcing his departure from the thrash metal band shortly after drummer Shawn Drover left the group. Both musicians have said they quit the band.

In an official statement published by Brave Words, Drover thanked his former band, and said he is ready to move on.

“After 10 years, I have decided to quit Megadeth to pursue my own musical interests,” Drover said. “I want to thank Dave Mustaine and the entire Megadeth family, as well as thanking all the amazing Megadeth fans around the world!!! I truly appreciate all of you. Stay tuned for info on my next musical journey.”

Posting on his official blog later in the day, Broderick also announced he wants to work on other projects, citing creative differences within the band as his reason for leaving the group.

“Due to artistic and musical differences, it is with great reluctance that I announce my departure from Megadeth to pursue my own musical direction,” he said.

“I want all of you to know how much I appreciate the amount that you the fans have accepted and respected me as a member of Megadeth for the last seven years, but it is time for me to move on. I wish Dave and everyone in Megadeth all the best. I am working on a few things of my own and hope that when they come out, you will all dig it.”

The two remaining members of Megadeth, Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson, have not publicly commented on the departure of Drover or Broderick at the time of writing. Over a dozen musicians have left Megadeth over the last thirty-plus years. Drover originally joined the group in 2004, with Broderick joining in 2008.

The band’s most recent album, 2013's Super Collider, was their 13th full-length release.
