Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger Are Making A TV Show About The Music Business

HBO has officially picked up a long awaited television series developed by Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger about the 1970s music industry, which will star Bobby Canavale, Olivia Wilde and Ray Romano.

Reports Rolling Stone, Scorsese will direct the pilot episode for the still-untitled project, which has been in development for years. It will be set in the 1970s and will focus on the “drug and sex-fuelled music business as punk and disco were breaking out.”

The idea for the show was reportedly conceived by The Rolling Stone’s frontman Mick Jagger who pitched it as a feature film in 2010. As an executive producer of the TV series, he will lend his real-world experiences to the project.

Scorsese will reportedly go on to serve as one of the show’s executive producers alongside Jagger. Boardwalk Empire‘s Bobby Cannavale will play Richie Finestra, the president of American Century Records. His wife Devon, will be played by Olivia Wilde and Ray Romano has also signed on as the label’s Head of Promotions.

This is far from Scorsese’s first music-related project. He is linked to a Ramones biopic currently in the works and previously directed the 2008 Rolling Stones concert documentary Shine a Light.
