Stereosonic have announced just one of the headline acts for 2015. Yes, you guessed right, epic dance-hall trio Major Lazer are taking the Australia's biggest national festival by storm.
Diplo, acting as an unofficial ambassador of the festival having played a mere five times, and his Major Lazer team mates, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire scored a No. 1 smash here with the banger Lean On, featuring M and DJ Snake, and then put up a top 10 hit Powerful, featuring Ellie Goulding and Tarrus Riley. Their third record Peace Is The Mission catapulted to a top 5 peak.
"In Australia, we have had a bunch of pop records that have gone platinum there before anywhere else in the world," Diplo says.
"We are not going out of our way to be pop, it's just working there for us. Even my publisher looks at the Australian charts first now."
Diplo has been busy of late, teaming up with Skrillex on the Jack U project and collaborating with Justin Bieber on Where Are You Now. Word on the street is that Diplo has a track in the can with Iggy Izalea which may appear on the next Major Lazer album (again, Diplo was working with her long before Fancy hit the charts).
"You guys don't seem to support her that much, even though she is your biggest female export (in the USA) since Olivia Newton-John. I've always been a fan," he says.
He gives shout outs to Sia, DJs Anna Lunoe and Alison Wonderland and has been social media chatting with Ruby Rose who Diplo says, "seems to be on fire right now."
Stereosonic 2015 will back to a one-day festival in Sydney on November 28, Perth on November 29, Adelaide and Melbourne on December 5 and Brisbane on December 6. Tix are on sale from July 30 only from moshtix. The full line-up announced on July 15.
