Daft Punk, Kendrick Lamar To Perform At 2014 Grammys

In what will be their first live TV performance since 2008, helmet-clad electro duo Daft Punk are set to take the stage at the 56th annual Grammy Awards on 26 January next year at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The french robots will join Kendrick Lamar, Imagine Dragons, Pink and Fun.‘s Nate Ruess onstage for the live event.

Despite having one of the biggest record of the year with Random Acesss Memories, the enigma that is Daft Punk has refrained from any public performances since the record dropped. “We learned that because they had such a good experience with us when they appeared with Kanye in 2008, they were happy to discuss a performance on this year’s show,” Executive Producer Ken Ehrlich told Rolling Stone.

“Conversations took place over a period of a couple of months, and finally they agreed to be a part of this year’s telecast,” continued Ehrlich. “Details of the performance are still being worked out, but the idea of having the exclusive television performance by this iconic band is something we’re very, very excited about.”

Along with their performance, Daft Punk are up for five awards on the night, including Album of the Year and Best Dance/Electronica Album for Random Access Memories and Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group performance for their hit Get Lucky. The pair previously won two Grammys in 2009 for their record Alive 2007 and the dance hit Harder Better Faster Stronger.

Earlier this year Daft Punk were set to perform on The Colbert Report before withdrawing due to contractual obligations tied with their appearance as presenters during the MTV Video Music Awards. The last minute cancellation resulted in a hilarious Colbert rendition of Get Lucky featuring guest vocals from the likes of Matt Damon, Jimmy Fallon, Bryan Cranston, Hugh Laurie and Jeff Bridges.

Also performing on the night will be Kendrick Lamar (who is up for seven awards, including Best New Artist), Imagine Dragons (who are up for two awards), as well as duet by Pink and Fun.’s Nate Ruess (also up for two trophies) performing their hit Just Give Me A Reason. The night will also feature a special “Grammy moment” performance with Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson and Blake Shelton. LL Cool J will return as host.
