Following on from that little snippet of their new album they dropped the other day, Glass Animals are showing no signs of slowing down the hype train dropping their latest single Life Itself today, seeing the band embrace some riotous psychedelia into their sound.
Propulsive and percussion-driven, the track is the first taste we’ve been given of the band’s forthcoming new album How To Be a Human Being which follows their 2014 debut, Zaba.
Confirming that Glass Animals are indeed exploring new musical directions on the sophomore effort, lead singer and producer Dave Bayley explained that it was the success of Zaba and their subsequent touring that inspired him to try something different.
“Things have changed a lot for us over the past two years. Instead of sitting in the studio we’ve been in a different city every night; making friends, hearing crazy stories, getting in crazy trouble,” he said in a press release.
“So much has happened! All of it made me want to think about people, and write something rawer and more human.”
A big part of making things more human seems to stem from the band’s changing relationship with their own music after playing it to bigger and bigger crowds. “Production-wise, we’ve been buzzing off of the amazing energy of the crowds we’ve been playing to,” Bayley explained.
“As crowds grew, they got a bit more feral, and so did we. We found ourselves going a bit wilder on stage.”
