Flume has just announced he has a new EP coming out soon, and he’s already given us a taste of what’s in store.
Taking to Facebook today, Flume (real name Harley Edward Streten) announced that his last album Skin has a Companion EP, made up of songs that were written around the same time. The EP will be released in November on vinyl and stocked in independent record stores.
“I’ve been overwhelmed by the support you guys have shown for Skin over the past few months and I wanted to share some more music that was written around the same time,” he tells fans, while sharing a snippet of new music (below) to wet our whistles.
In a recent interview, Streten voiced his feelings about where he is now on a musical level, after the release of Skin.
“Now that I’ve put Skin out, I’m like… awesome! I’ve done my big, grandiose, clean record, with lots of big sawtooth sounds,” he said.
“Now I’m kind of bored of it, and I want to do lots of more sample-based stuff, like actual world sounds. So, like, maybe a vocal that’s been recorded and make it into a chord.
“I kinda want to go a little more lo-fi, I guess. But that’s how it works – you get excited about one thing, then you go to the opposite for a bit.”
For the writing process of his next album, Streten says he intends to go bush in his portable studio-bed-van, to hang out in national parks and write and surf.
Live it up Flume, and we shall reap the musical rewards. Just make sure we can find you when your national tour kicks off this November.
