Listen: Local Natives New Album ‘Hummingbird’

Local Natives have released their new album Hummingbird. The second LP from the Californian indie rock quartet, Hummingbird has been immediately met with positive reviews from the likes of Pitchfork and NME.

Hummingbird is the first record from Local Natives since the departure of bassist Andy Hamm, who left in 2011 and reduced the band to a 4-piece. The new album was co-produced with the help of The National’s Aaron Dessner.

As Local Natives frontman Taylor Rice explained in November, the band came to work with Dessner after touring with The National.

“It was funny working with Aaron, because we just met the band on the road. They were so warm and welcoming and we all really hit it off. They’re tour buddies. We were talking about what we wanted to do with our second record, telling Aaron we were writing and talking to producers, and he joked that we should just do it with him,” Rice told NME.

“He even got a guitar solo out of Ryan [Hahn], which I don’t think would’ve happened before. Aaron helped capture some magical moments on this album. He really pushed us,” added Rice.

Local Natives are headed to Australia for a 3-date tour in May.
