While he may be at a disadvantage, on account that not only is he not a coal miners daughter, but no ones daughter at all, Jack White clearly understands the message. In celebration of Record Store Day (for which he is the ambassador) White has released a rendition of Loretta Lynn’s classic track Coal Miners Daughter.
The track really is a rendition rather than just a cover. By comparing the two you’ll notice White’s takes on a whole new form. It’s grainy with plenty of crackle and pop, why, you’d be excused for thinking it was actually the original. As reported, White recorded the track at his Third Man Studio booth, which was open for public use during the Record Store Day festivities.
Those who ventured into the iconic studio were able to record 2-minutes of whatever sound they wanted, and the final result was printed onto a 6? phonograph disc.
Back in the 1970's, the track did wonders for Lynn who enjoyed a successful career, which is still being honoured today. The track became the namesake for her official autobiography, which was also made into a film.
