LISTEN: Bernard Fanning Unleashes New Solo Single ‘Battleships’

Ex-Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning has today dropped Battleships, the first single from his long-awaited second solo album, Departures. This is the first we’ve heard from the Aussie rock icon since Powderfinger’s last effort, 2007's Dream Days At The Hotel Existence.

Battleships isn’t exactly new territory for Fanning, mashing up the sound of latter-day ‘Finger with the pop sensibilities of his first solo smash, 2005's Tea & Sympathy, which spawned the mega-hit Wish You Well. The new single does, however, come with an added dash of melancholy and just enough surprise falsetto to sink our battleship of expectation. If you’re a fan of the sound of Brisbane’s favourite son, this track isn’t going to disappoint.

Fanning released an album teaser, tracklist and cover art for Departures last week. The album can be pre-ordered now at Fanning’s official website and is released Friday, 7th June.
