News Corp Australia reports that promoter Michael Coppel, who brought Linkin Park to Australia after the release of their debut album Hybrid Theory, had “begun discussions” with the band about them returning down under next year.
“It’s a real shock,” Coppel says. “I would have never picked it with Chris Cornell and I never saw this coming either. You think at 41 someone has their life worked out but pressures build up and sometimes people aren’t able to reach out for help.”
Linkin Park last toured Australia in 2013, when they performed at Soundwave Festival and at two sideshows with Stone Sour. They’ve since released two albums — 2014’s The Hunting Party and this year’s One More Light.
Bennington’s death has been followed by tributes from musicians around the world. Korn have also dedicated a performance of their song ‘4 U’ to the singer, despite one of the band’s guitarists calling Bennington’s death “cowardly”.
