Laneway Festival Expanding To Two-Day Event In 2015?

During an interview with Consequence Of Sound, one of the masterminds behind Laneway Festival, Danny Rodgers, has revealed that organisers have big plans in mind for the boutique festival. Depending on the success of the 2014 edition of the event, Rodgers and co. will be looking to spread the good times over two days.

This year will see the event take place in Detroit, Michigan for the first-ever North American leg. From its humble beginnings as St Jerome’s Laneway Festival in Melbourne, the festival has slowly but surely expanded over its 11 year history, which raises the question of where they will go next. Asked if a multi-day event is a viable option. Rodgers responded:

“If this year goes really well and we sort of sell-out and everything feels like we could go two days then I’ll be pushing off. I’ve already got proposals to ask for two days. If we could, it’d be great. It’d be really great because there’s a lot of artists that we’re actually having to say ‘no’ to which really sucks. An artist you really like and I’m like ‘I’m sorry, I just don’t have a slot this year,’ and it’s always disappointing for them.”

Though the topic of conversation was the North American debut, the Detroit show is likely to be the last to be spread out over two days despite the trend in the region. As Rodgers explains, organisers have been carefully plotting the events progression. In regards to Detroit, Rodgers says, “We just need to get it right with one day and once we get it right we can see what we do next.”

The wheels are in motion for the 2014 event taking place Down Under. The dates have now been locked in, as have the venues, and we can already say with 100% certainty that CHVRCHES will be performing, while Savages are also looking like a shoe in. All will be revealed when the lineup for 2014 drops on Tuesday, 24th September.
