Kurt Cobain To Get His Own Comic Book

Late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain is set to be immortalised in his very own comic book, titled Tribute: Kurt Cobain. Publishing and production company Bluewater Productions will print a biography of Cobain, written and illustrated by Jayfri Hashim, and release it on 2nd April – days ahead of the 20th anniversary of Cobain’s death on 5th April.

Cobain’s biographically comic is the latest in a long line of “Tribute” series products created by Bluewater Productions. The franchise has already covered the lives of other romanticised rock stars, including John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney and Jim Morrrison.

“The ‘Tribute’ line of comic books tells the stories of people that have made a significant difference in the world while they were with us that,” said Bluewater publisher Darren G. Davis. “It is a way for us to honor these people who have made a difference in the world.”

Discussing the Nirvana frontman, he added, “Not only is this a great way to understand the importance of [Cobain's] contribution to music, but a great tool for kids to read about him in a different medium… Our biography comic books are now taught in schools and libraries for students and reluctant readers.”

Print copies of the Cobain comic can be pre-ordered over at Comic Flea Market, and digital versions are also up for pre-order through iTunes. The comic will also be released in other eBook formats.

The life and death of Kurt Cobain have been the source of much attention over the last few months. A weeping Cobain statue was unveiled for ‘Kurt Cobain Day’, a crowdfunding campaign for a Kurt Cobain Museum was launched, Seattle police reviewed Cobain’s suicide case, Cobain’s likeness was used to sell beer in a strange new commercial, and the meaning behind his lyrics for Come As You Are were realised. Check out teens’ reactions to Nirvana below – it’s startling just how much of an impact one band made on American youth.
