Korn Frontman Talks About New Album ‘The Paradigm Shift’

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Korn frontman Jonathan Davis has opened up about the creative process behind the band’s recently announced return-to-glory album, now titled The Paradigm Shift.

As it turns out, much of the writing process was heavily influenced by Davis’ struggle with substance abuse, a vice he’s only recently managed to nip in the bud. Davis explained that it was an addiction to prescription drugs that did the most damage and personal issues made it a lot harder to give up.

“My boy got diabetes and I had come off medication for my depression, and that ****ed me up,” he says. “I was in a straight haze. I detoxed off that medication – it was an anti-depressant, the anxiety and stuff. I’d been on it for three years and the doctor told me you gotta get off this, it’s bad for you.”

Davis saw no other option but to buckle down and get the monkey off his back. “I went to this county rehab. I was like, ‘I don’t want to do this **** ever again,’” he says. “So I went into the most ghetto, ****ed-up place I could find and I’m barely coming out of it now.”

The record is said to be a retelling of these dark times for Davis, but the vocalist feels as though the truth will make the music shine:

“It was really kind of magic. I don’t know how the hell I did it. I was so ****ed up from coming off all that medicine, and I feel so good about the record. When I look back now, I’m like, ‘Wow, how did I come up with this ****?’”

The new album, which was revealed previously by the band’s drummer, will drop early October.
