The track follows on from ‘Rattlesnake’, and is a lo-fi scorcher that’s far more laid-back than its manic predecessor.
It looks as if there’s been a slight blunder with the artwork, though. The YouTube video for the track says Flying Microtonal Banana‘s release date is set for “February 24, 2016,” which, of course, has already passed.
One commenter believes in their ability to release it then though. They commented, “I genuinely believe you can travel through time and release this album in February 2016.”
It’s more likely that the album is actually coming out on 24th February 2017, but if King Gizzard are planning on time travelling then we welcome it.
As drummer Eric Moore explained, the album is centred around a “a custom microtonal guitar” that a friend made for the band.
“The guitar was modified to play in 24-TET tuning and could only be played with other microtonal instruments. We ended up giving everyone a budget of $200 to buy instruments and turn them microtonal. The record features the modified electric guitars, basses, keyboards and harmonica as well as a turkish horn called a Zurna,” he said.
It will be their ninth album in five years, which is a pretty damn impressive feat. Their last record Nonagon Infinity was voted by triple j listeners as one of the best of the year.

UPDATE: The ‘Nuclear Fusion’ video has been re-uploaded with the correct release date for Flying Microtonal Banana‘s release — 24th February 2017.
