King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are proving impossible to hold down. Rather than pumping the breaks off the back of an album and their own festival, the band have kicked it up a gear, announcing a brand new full-length offering for next year.
The band announced the new album, dubbed Flying Microtonal Banana, in the greatest way possible, by letting loose the first cut off the album, Rattlesnake. The band out-Gizzed themselves considerably with the effort, laying some retro video game-style visuals over an otherwise hypnotic track.
“Earlier this year we started experimenting with a custom microtonal guitar our friend Zak made for Stu,” explains drummer Eric Moore. “The guitar was modified to play in 24-TET tuning and could only be played with other microtonal instruments. We ended up giving everyone a budget of $200 to buy instruments and turn them microtonal. The record features the modified electric guitars, basses, keyboards and harmonica as well as a turkish horn called a Zurna.”
Those who have been paying attention will know that Flying Microtonal Banana is the first of an expected four full-length albums the band have teased for next year, but today they’re revealed they’re actually increasing that number to five. The sonic releases will be supported by an equally as important visual counterpart, with the band tagging longterm collaborator Jason Galea to help out.
