The Australian summer might be fading into the distance but Perth duo Sun City are here to make sure the rays are shining year-round. The guys are bringing the feel-good, bliss-out vibes on their brand new Daytona EP.
Sun City’s Tobias John and Daniel Mackey have been in a self-imposed hibernation between releases, honing these fresh five tracks by drawing on inspiration from that old treasure trove of 20-something life changes.
“We wrote this record on the verandah of a little inner-city weatherboard cottage, in between conversations between two best mates, sharing stories about some pretty challenging and equally awesome experiences that we’ve had so far,” explain the band.
“The stories on this record talk about the subtle tectonic shifts that have happened in our lives moving from our mid-20s to our late-20s. All of a sudden, our decisions became influenced and often corrupted, by the pressures of life and the world outside.”
While that might sound emotionally-heavy, the tracks on Daytona are far from laboured, with the Sun City guys skillfully adding levity to the subject matter with chill, tropicana-beats and sunshine-drenched electronic production.
The Daytona EP is out now via Spotify and iTunes. Sydney and Perth fans can catch Sun City doing their thing live in early April as they hit the road for the an EP tour. Stream the Daytona in full, below.
