Jet have returned with some brand new thunder, but it’s not entirely what you’d expect from the Aussie pub rock vets.
For starters, the freshly minted tune is a collab with Italian electro house dance-punks The Bloody Beetroots, and their unholy union has birthed a Frankenstein’s monster of a tune that sounds part-EDM, part-AC/DC, with a late-era Beatles segue.
Or, part The Bloody Beetroots, part Jet TBH.
Anyway, it’s incidentally called ‘My Name Is Thunder’ and it’s a new kind of beast, that’s for sure. Give it a spin (if you dare) and see what you reckon, below.
“I knew this song needed a certain rock tone… a tone like Nic Cester of Jet had,” Bloody Beetroots mastermind Sir Bob Corenlius Rifo tells triple j.
“We thought instead of someone ‘like Nic Cester’, how about we get the real Nic Cester?
“He lived just a couple hours away from me in Italy. I found him… We worked together, ate together, drank together and created something very powerful together.
“Around this time the Jet guys stared talking and thinking about getting back together, when Nic shared this with his bandmates, the idea came up to have all of Jet involved. Because of our different influences, we had different ideas on the mixing and from that, we came up with two versions. It’s the best of both our worlds.”
Jet released their latest single, ‘Seventeen’, back in 2010.
