James Murphy On New Arcade Fire Album: “It’s Going To Be A Really Great Record”

We’ve known for some time now that Arcade Fire have recruited former LCD Soundsystem member James Murphy to help out on the follow-up to 2010 album The Suburbs. Although we still have few details on the new record, Murphy has given some insight as to his input as producer.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, Murphy said he wasn’t sure what to expect after he got the call from Arcade Fire, and was left wondering what he might be able to bring to their music:

“There’s a lot of them, and they’re mostly self-produced – like, they don’t need a producer in a certain way. So I didn’t know how it would go.”

Fortunately for Murphy, Arcade Fire did most of the heavy lifting and the quality of the new material allowed the producer to work under less pressure:

“It’s always working. It’s just that I might have a different way of approaching how to finish, or how to accomplish an end result that really works. I think it’s going to be a really great record, actually. I’m eager to see it come out.”
