Jack White Is Taking A Long Break From Playing Live

Just days before he’s set to take the stage at Coachella for the second weekend running, singer-songwriter Jack White has announced plans to take a lengthy hiatus from the gigging life.

The White Stripe, who’s been gallivanting across the globe on his Lazaretto world tour these past 18 months, has announced a handful of US acoustic concerts — details of which will be revealed on the day of each show — which will form his last live performances for quite some time.

A statement, released via his official website today, indicates that the Coachella 2015 headliner is taking something of a sabbatical.

“After many years of performing in a multitude of configurations, Jack is announcing that he will be taking a break from performing live for a long period of time,” the statement reads.

It’s an especially weighty blow to White’s Aussie fans. The rocker, who hasn’t visited our shores since his 2012 gig at Splendour In The Grass, was high on the list of hopefuls for the festival this year. The Splendour 2015 lineup was dropped this morning, and White was conspicuously absent.

White played a ferocious, career-spanning headlining set last Saturday at Coachella, featuring songs from his days with The White Stripes and The Raconteurs, as well as his solo work. The troubadour also busted out a sweet Otis Redding cover and a blistering tribute to a Rage Against The Machine classic.
