Sooooo many rap videos are backdropped by uber-expensive mansions and cars that it seems ridiculous to think they’re all legit. Thankfully, US rapper and comedian David Burd (aka Lil Dicky) has set out to prove how much money rappers could actually be saving by basically crowdsourcing their fancy mansions and cars.
Lil Dicky’s new $ave Dat Money clip (below), which features Fetty Wap and Rich Homie Quan, makes it seem like Burd hasn’t spent ANY money at all, and has instead convinced a bunch of rich people and businesses to help him out.
Speaking into a mansion’s intercom in the clip, Burd says, “Hi my name’s Dave, I know this is kind of ridiculous but I’m actually a rapper and we’re shooting a music video all about how we can make the most epic rap video ever for no money,” and before long he has a willing and supposedly completely random participant.
Burd manages to get hold of a Lamborghini, a luxury yacht, and even some high-profile celebrity cameos from the likes of Sarah Silverman, NBA player Kevin Durant, comedian Hannibal Buress and singer-songwriter Tom Petty.
The production credits for the $ave Dat Money video prove that Burd did in fact spend money on making the clip, having hired a extensive crew for the shoot. So while the video’s idea is pretty clever, it’s a given that the whole thing is mostly set up.
