Iggy Pop has confirmed details of the new record he has made with his band The Stooges. Ready To Die, the first record from The Stooges since The Weirdness in 2007, will be out 30th April, and contains tracks such as Burn, Sex & Money and Job.
The latter track appears to soundtrack the promo for the album, which also features Iggy as a scarecrow (check it out below). The album is the first recorded with The Stooges’ relatively new line-up, which features drummer Scott Asheton, bass player Mike Watt and guitarist James Williamson who rejoined the band following the death of Ron Asheton in 2009.
The guy who likes to Search And Destroy has made a video statement about his motivation for making the album, in which he’s also taken a potshot at the Smashing Pumpkins:
“My motivation in making any record with the group at this point is no longer personal. It’s just a pig-headed f**king thing I have that a real f**king group, when they’re an older group, they also make f**king records. They don’t just go and twiddle around on stage to make a bunch of f**king money. And then go, “Oh! It wouldn’t be as good!” This is not the f**king Smashing Pumpkins, we’ve got the bald guy and whoever. No. The only thing I really have left to say is the Stooges are a real group.”
Iggy And The Stooges will be in Australia next month to play the Byron Bay BluesFest and do a handful of sideshows across the country. No doubt we’ll hear a few new songs along the way.
