Here’s The First Track From The Mastodon, QOTSA and ATDI Supergroup, Gone Is Gone

Following on from last week’s revelation that they were working on music together, Gone Is Gone‘s Troy Sanders (Mastodon), Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens Of The Stone Age), Tony Hajjar (At The Drive In) and Mike Zarin have just dropped their first track Violescent.

A sludgy slice of hard rocking fun that sits pretty much exactly between the sound of Mastodon and QOTSA, the track was premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show. Sanders taking up vocal duties while Van Leeuwen and Zarin churn out some grade A heaviness, the track is sure to please fans of any of their various projects.

Evolving out of soundtrack work Zarin and Hajjar recorded together, the duo fleshed out the songs and brought in the Troys to complete the lineup. With about 20 songs written, 8 of which will see the light of day on their self titled debut LP.

Speaking to Rolling Stone about putting the band together, Hajjar made it clear Gone Is Gone will be drawing from everyone’s long history in music. “The thought behind this band is to combine what most of us know from many years of being in touring/recording entities and our love of scoring,” he said.

Sanders on the other hand is just eager to get the music out. “The timing is like a mother’s instinct,” Sanders said of releasing the songs. “We know it is now as this band was conceived a few years ago, and we have been holding onto this music far too long. The gestation period has to end. Doctor’s orders, we must birth this band into the world now!”

Making their live debut next Wednesday 27th April at Los Angeles’ Dragonfly they wont’ have to wait long. In the meantime though have a listen to Violescent here below.
