Have Jack White And Neil Young Recorded A Covers Album Together?

It almost sounds too good to be true – a Jack White & Neil Young studio album. Journalist Michael Goldberg has reported that the musical monoliths have collaborated on an album of covers, set for release some time this year.

“Young and White have recorded an entire album together, according to a source associated with the project,” Goldberg said. “The album will be released on Third Man Records, and probably Warner Bros, as well.”

Goldberg was apparently reacting to a post on the Neil Young fan-site Thrasher’s Wheat, which alleged that Young had recorded 12 songs at White’s Third Man Records headquarters in Nashville, all of which pay tribute to other renowned singer-songwriters.

According to Goldberg, the album is likely to include covers of Phil Ochs’ Changes, Bob Dylan‘s Blowin’ in the Wind, Gordon Lightfoot‘s Early Morning Rain, Ivory Joe Hunter‘s Since I Met You Baby and Tim Hardin‘s Reason To Believe – all of which Young played at the 2013 Farm Aid concert.

Also named for inclusion is a cover of Bert Jansch‘s Needle of Death, which Young recorded at Third Man Records on Record Store Day in April 2013 and has been performing at concerts since. Young is currently touring the US, but will wind-up his January tour over the next few days.
