Shannon ‘Nollsie’ Noll has put a hurtin’ on our nation, accused of “murdering” the Australian anthem by those not rendered powerless to tweet after hearing him perform what others have called the “most bogan rendition” of Advance Australia Fair ever recorded.
Singing at the Cox Plate in Melbourne’s Moonee Ponds yesterday, the former Australian Idol contestant was instantly the target of ridicule after delivering a flat, ‘Strayan accented version of the cherished Peter Dodds McCormick composition.
Within moments of Noll commencing, bewildered onlookers expressed their disapproval with acerbic tweets like, “Breaking news: Vic Police Detectives on way to Moonee Valley to investigate claims Shannon Noll murdered the national anthem.”
To his credit Noll proved he don’t play that s**t. Responding to one hater who posted, “Aaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh my ears @nollsie #thatwaspathetic”, Nollsie replied “ha ha, get stuffed mate! #hater”. Easy, Nollsie, no need to go overboard.
You can hear, if you dare, Noll’s Cox Plate performance of Advance Australia Fair below.
