Green Day’s New Single Is Going To Be A Bit Of A Throwback, By The Sounds Of It

We’re still a week off hearing the new Green Day single BANG BANG but a US radio announcer has copped a listen and he reckons it’s a throwback to the band’s old school punk music.

Nik Rivers from New York’s 107.7FM in Buffalo, NY said he got a sneak listen to the song during Lollapalooza and has compared it to the band’s third album Dookie, however, he’s been very specific about which songs.

“So if you are a fan of the early, punky Green Day, you will LOVE the new song Bang, Bang,” he wrote.

“And when I say early, think Dookie, but not “When I come Around” Dookie, but more “Welcome To Paradise”, “Burnout” & “Chump” Dookie…With hints of Kerplunk & the rawness of 39 Smooth. I’m excited for the #AltFamily to hear this one!”

Dookie was released more than 20 years ago so it will be interesting to see how Green Day translate that to 2016. It’s their first new material since 2012’s trio of albums and is being considered as somewhat of a comeback single for them.

It’s officially out on 11th August and is expected to be the first single off a forthcoming 12th album.
