CHECK OUT THE LATEST
The future is comin’ on for Gorillaz now that the toon punk monkeys are set to un-cage their brand new album Humanz later this month.
And they’ve just fanned the hype-fire even hugher with the announcement of a handful of so-called “spirit houses” which will be popping up all over the globe like zits, but even scarier.
First up, we know what you’re thinking and sadly no, nothing has been announced in Australia *yet*, but we can dream.
In the meantime, anyone who can afford an international plane ticket on a whim can go check out the spooky, immersive musical installations when they arrive in Brooklyn from April 21st-23rd, Berlin from April 28th-30th, and Amsterdam on May 6th (but you’ve gotta RSVP here first).
The spirit houses are based on the recently-released music video for ‘Saturn Barz’ (Spirit House)’, and featured psychedelic visuals of band members Murdoc, 2D, Russel, and Noodle crashing a creepy haunted house.
According to a press release (via Pitchfork) the IRL spirit houses are described as “immersive, high fidelity” happenings in “raw spaces” that will feature “exclusive music, custom artwork, physical installations, and digital projections”.
“Come and bathe in high-tech sound, feast on unearthly visuals, and let the experience take you on the ultimate trip,” spruiks bassist Murdoc Niccals.
Colour us intrigued.
Meanwhile, Gorillaz – though notably absent from this year’s Splendour In The Grass lineup – have recently been announced to headline Japan’s Fuji Rock festival, which means Aussie tour dates could still be on the cards for around then, us being geographically proximate and whatnot.
Catch the trailer for the band’s new spirit houses below, and get your ears on their new LP when it drops on on Friday, 28th April.
