Gerard Way Announces New Solo Record, Previews Material

Former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has announced that he has signed to Warner Bros Records as a solo artist, launched his own website and revealed that his debut album is nearing completion, offering fans a small preview of what’s to come.

The announcement was made on Way’s brand new website, which also hosts his other multimedia projects including his visual art, work in comics, writing and of course any new music. Way writes that he is “beyond thrilled” to have a forum to share all his work.

“I imagine you’ll see/hear everything from blog posts to images, art, drawings, music, big projects and small projects, looks into things, under things, behind things, and in front of them,” he writes in a statement on the site. “This will also be the place to come for news on anything related to my ride into the next part of my life. I’d rather just start moving so I’d like to say thank you for stopping by,” he continues.

“I am continuing full-steam into comics, art, and more importantly to some of you- music. I am pleased to let you know I am now signed as a solo artist Warner Bros Records,” Way announces. “My album is near completion, and you should expect to hear things in the near future, even today actually- with a brief snippet of what is to come. I am excited. It’s starting again.”

Last year footage surfaced of the ex-My Chemical Romance singer opening up about the demise of the band and MCR5, the outfit’s fifth album that never happened, admitting that “all the joy was gone”. My Chemical Romance officially split in 2013.

The song preview on Way’s new website currently features a mostly instrumental snippet of fuzzed-out guitars and distorted vocals. It’s unclear presently what the song is called, or when Way’s album will hit stores.

In other Way news, he has also just written and drawn another comic strip for The Talkhouse, entitled Twitter which stars a pair of anthropomorphised cats. Check it out here.
