CHECK OUT THE LATEST
Earlier this week, the Seattle Police Department released a note that was found inside Kurt Cobain‘s wallet at the time of his death that seems to mock his wife Courtney Love. The image of the note released to the public, however, was cut off and now the newly released full version offers a new perspective on its message.
The original snippet that was offered by the police, although not proven to have been written by Cobain himself, appeared as though he was mocking his wedding vows to Love in a scathing and bitter tone.
“Do you Kurt Cobain take Courtney Michelle Love to be your Lawful Shredded wife,” the initial lines read, “even when she’s a bitch with zits and siphoning all yr money for doping and whoring.” The photocopied paper then cuts off the rest of the scrawling words.
Grungebook has now posted the full version of the hand-written note, the extra line reading, “Will you promise to fuck her at least once a week, OK”. When considered in its entirety, the words offer a different view on the tone of the letter, perhaps more sardonic than originally thought.
According to Loudwire, the full version of the note even offers the possibility that the letter found on Cobain was penned by Love herself, in a self-deprecating manner. As previously pointed out, it was written on a San Francisco hotel’s stationary, suggesting it could have been written during a getaway for the couple.
Mashable reports, the last time Nirvana played in San Fransisco was New Year’s Eve 1993 at the Oakland Coliseum, less than four months before Cobain’s death. Love’s band Hole had wrapped its 1993 tour dates a month before, so it is plausible that they were in San Francisco together.
A tweet by author Mark Yarm, who wrote the book Everybody Loves Our Town: An Oral History of Grunge, shows he supports the theory that the sprawling message was written by Love herself. She has yet to comment on the whole issue.
No word yet as to whether this new piece of information has swayed the opinion of Patrick Stickles, frontman of New Jersey punk rock outfit Titus Andronicus, who yesterday shared his opinion that the note proves foul play by Courtney Love.
The release of the note came as Seattle police announced their decision to review internal files regarding the Nirvana frontman’s death in anticipation of the 20-year-anniversary which occurred at the beginning of the month. The review confirmed unequivocally that Cobain committed suicide.
Here's the FULL note found in Kurt Cobain's wallet. It's just dark humor, folks (& apparently written by Courtney) http://t.co/MJLe3lG9Ng
