An ex-cop has revealed late rap icon Tupac Shakur‘s last words before he lost consciousness after he was targeted in an unsolved drive-by shooting. According to former Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Chris Carroll, who was first on the scene, Shakur’s last words were “F you.”
“He looked at me and he took a breath to get the words out, and he opened his mouth, and I thought I was actually going to get some cooperation. And then the words came out: ‘Fuck you,’” former officer Carroll told Sin City outlet Vegas Seven, nearly 18 years after the rapper’s untimely death.
“After that, he started gurgling and slipping out of consciousness. At that point, an ambulance showed up, and he went into unconsciousness,” Carroll added. Shakur died on 13th September 1996, six days after he was shot four times, never regaining consciousness after his final words.
Caroll explained that he kept the rapper’s final proclamation to himself because the homicide case is still open and because he didn’t wash to add to the cult of personality surrounding the live-fast, die-young rapper. “I didn’t want Tupac to be a martyr or hero because he told the cops ‘F you.’”
“I didn’t want to give him that,” Carroll explained to Vegas Seven. “I didn’t want people to say, ‘Even when the chips were down, his life on the line, he still said ‘F you,’ he still wouldn’t talk to the police.’ I didn’t want him to be a hero for that. And now enough time has passed, well, he’s a martyr anyway; he’s viewed as a hero anyway. My story, at this point, isn’t going to change any of that.”
Shakur was riding in Death Row Records founder Suge Knight’s BMW after a Mike Tyson fight at the MGM Grand on 7th September when several men rolled up in a white Cadillac at the now famous intersection of Flamingo and Koval. One man then opened fire on the legendary hip-hop star.
