Foo Fighters Hype New LP

A recent Instagram post by the Dave Grohl-led Foo Fighters has hyped up the group’s next album, with a photo (below) of master recording tapes being shared with this colourful caption: “It’s F—ing ON”.

In the photo there are five reels of ATR tape which appear to be for the band’s next album, each simply labelled “LP 8?. Two of the tapes are labelled “Master Tones”, sounds used to calibrate tape machines and studios so recordings sound as similar as possible across different setups.

The other three tapes, with a fourth apparently just out of shot, appear to be the first reels of new material. The visible tapes are marked “30ips” (inches per second), which would equate to 15 minutes of recording per reel.

The band have just been named as headliners for Firefly Music Festival in June, so it’s safe to assume work on the new material will be complete by then. Drummer Taylor Hawkins also tweeted in December that he was “back in the studio“.

So it’s entirely possible the eighth Foo Fighters album is already recorded, mixed and maybe even mastered. It really is on.

Grohl told journalists back in November that Foo Fighters were recording their next album “in a way that no one’s done before” — the band’s 2011 album Wasting Light was also recorded entirely on analog equipment, so the mysterious methods Foos are employing on this new project remain hidden for now.

Foo Fighters’ eighth studio album remains without a title or release date.
