Fear Factory’s Dino Cazares is the latest musician to weigh into the public debate surrounding the US presidential election, pledging that if republican candidate Donald Trump “actually gets elected, I’m moving to Australia.”
In an interview with Brisbane music blog Sticks and Stones, the Mexican-American guitarist said, “If [Trump] is elected president, we’re gonna have a lot of issues in America. He’s already getting death threats, I don’t know if you know that, but they just arrested some guy who sent him a death threat on Facebook, like an idiot.”
“Who knows what’s gonna happen? He doesn’t like Muslims, he doesn’t like Mexicans, and he doesn’t like the foreigners. Blah blah blah blah… It’s just gonna cause a war,” Cazares continued.
When further prodded as to who he might vote for, Cazares replied, “The closest thing I like is Bernie Sanders. But we have a kook running for president; we have Donald Trump.”
In his controversial and at times unbelievable campaign, Trump has outlined plans to build a wall along the US-Mexico border, condone waterboarding and deport all muslims from the country. Despite this, his chances of becoming President have gone from laughable to a real possibility.
Cazares is not the first musician to speak up against Trump. Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has slammed the republican candidate’s policies and several artists, including R.E.M., Aerosmith and Adele, have publicly denounced Trump’s use of their music in campaign rallies.
