It’s been a big day for Elton John — a video of him on The Late Late Show‘s Carpool Karaoke segment has seen him give a shout-out to Australia’s very own Sarah Blasko, while it has also emerged that he’s working on The Killers‘ new album.
John has always been a champion of new music, with a history of supporting Australian talent such as Pnau, so his shout out to Blasko isn’t too much of a surprise. The nod came when speaking to host Jeremy Cordon about what keeps him inspired, the pop star citing new music and especially young artists as giving him the creative steam to keep moving forward.
Singling out artists like Ed Sheeran and Grimes, John adds Blasko’s name to the new cache of musicians keeping his creative juices flowing.
“There’s a girl in Australia called Sarah Blasko,” he says, adding that “whenever you hear something new that inspires from the young it makes you feel like you want to do that”.
Speaking with triple j, Blasko says she was “very flattered” by the shout-out. “I knew that Elton had bought some of my albums when he was in Australia because somebody from the record shop sent us an e-mail and told me. And I was pretty blown away by that because I’ve been listening to Elton John my whole life,” she says.
“So that was good enough and then a few people started sending me the video last night. I was very, very happy about that.”

And it seems like it won’t be too long until he does that, with the news that he’s working on a new album with none other than his longtime man-crush Brandon Flowers and his band The Killers. In an interview with Shazam, John speaks of plans to fly to Las Vegas to work with the band in their hometown, on the follow up to their 2012 album Battle Born.
This news isn’t hugely surprising either, with the iconic songwriter and Flowers having been very public friends and fans of each others work for a while now. Elton even invited Brandon on his Beats 1 radio show Rocket Hour back in November, the two discussing their mutual appreciation and love of each others’ music.
“When Brandon makes a record — whether it’s for The Killers or on his own — he comes and plays me the album,” said Elton. “Usually, I’m very happy and excited to hear it. And I usually play mine to him.”
We’ll keep you posted on any new developments, but in the meantime you can checkout the whole interview with Shazam here below.
