As fans eagerly await their return to Australia, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros have kept busy working on the video for their new single Life Is Hard. The stunning new video elaborates on the evangelical feel of the song and comes ahead of their Australian tour.
Directed by Zeros frontman Alex Ebert, the video bears a particular meaning for the group. Said Ebert: “Two major inspirations for this video exist. One was to, in a visually controlled, poignant, and real way, exhibit and record ourselves live…the other was to respond to the pop music industry of the last 20 or more years, in which performance music videos are nearly always a suped-up, lip-synced karaoke”
Recorded during some downtime after a European tour, in the midst of “a day of pure chaos,” the clip continues the legacy of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, who’ve quickly ascended above the mire of indie and pop music, to carve out a unique and much-adored niche for themselves. Life Is Hard is the second single from the Zeros’ self-titled sophomore LP, released back in July. The first single from the album, Better Days received heavy rotation on triple j, ABC Dig, and PBS.
“By the way,” said Ebert “I should say that…at some point we may release another song or two from the recordings that day.” This is certainly good news for fans, keen to see them when they arrive Down Under for their slated performance at Byron Bay Bluesfest 2014 and their two exclusive shows at The Enmore Theatre and Melbourne’s The Palace.
