Blabbermouth reports that the incident took place as Hudson and his bandmates were preparing to leave Brisbane on the morning of Tuesday, 27th June, after wrapping up the Aussie tour for their latest album Reaching Into Infinity.
Crew members were reportedly loading equipment into a van (and trailer) outside the band’s hotel, which was located at the top of a steep hill. When the van and trailer were fully loaded, Hudson allegedly sat in the van first, before he was joined by his bandmates Frédéric Leclercq and Sam Totman.
The brakes on the van then supposedly started squeaking, and the van began rolling down the hill toward an intersection. Leclercq and Totman stepped out of the van, but Hudson was in the back seat with his seatbelt on.
Drummer Gee Anzalone allegedly tried to run after the van as it rolled down the hill, but couldn’t catch it. Hudson, on the other hand, was trying to get to the handbrake from inside.
As the van veered off away from the intersection and towards a tree, Hudson supposedly jumped out with only seconds to spare before it hit the tree and came to a complete stop.
Hudson was reportedly treated in hospital for two potentially broken ribs, a sprained shoulder and cuts and bruises, but has since said that he’ll now have “four days off in Los Angeles to hopefully make a quick recovery”.
Following the van incident, DragonForce went on to perform in Christchurch on Wednesday, 28th June, with Hudson’s arm in a sling. Watch footage of the performance, below.
