Speaking to Rolling Stone about the Republican and potential future President of the United States Taylor said, “The thing that bothered me was that people were taking Trump seriously.”
In December of last year Taylor said that, “the Republicans need to fucking disavow him,” but now he’s offered even more words about Trump given that the possibility of him becoming President seems to become slightly greater everyday.
“I’m not going to let that [racism] stand,” he said about Trump who has been accused of racism against African Americans, Latinos, Asians, Muslims and more.
“I may have bullshitted myself into thinking we were a little further ahead when it comes to race, but what we’re seeing right now is a lot of the far right fringe coming out of the woodwork and wearing their hatred right on their sleeves.”
“That cannot be what our legacy is,” he continued.
“Too many people died during the Civil War, during the Civil Rights Movement. We should not be asking, ‘Jesus Christ, what decade is this? How is this OK?’”
He encouraged the people of America to exercise their “freedom of speech” but also conceded that unfortunately the idea of freedom of speech allows Trump to spread his views as well.
According to Taylor people need to “stop posting photos of their lunch” and “raise their voices in dissent.” He’s “not going to shut up” about it and reckons that people need to be the same way.
“I know that as soon as people hear cursing, they tend to tune it out,” he said.
“But if you’re not cursing, you’re not pissed off enough. You really need to get that in your blood because that’s the only way we’re going to shut this shit down.”
A number of people have come out with strong opinions against Trump in the past week, the most notable being John Oliver and Louis C.K.
Oliver delivered a 20 minute monologue on Last Week Tonight about Trump saying, “It may have seemed harmless a year ago, but it has gotten frighteningly bigger and it is no longer wise to ignore it.”
C.K. went a little further comparing him to Hitler and calling him an “insane bigot,” in an email which also announced a new episode of his web series Horace and Pete (via Variety).
By the sounds of it, this won’t be the last time we’ll hear Taylor speak out against Trump until the threat of him becoming President is nonexistent.
The outspoken frontman started his radio show A Series Of Bleeps on Beats 1 last week, aiming to give metal and hard rock a bigger spotlight.
