Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott‘s rendition of the Elvis classic Suspicious Minds has leaked online, but we’re not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing. Well, it’s a bit of both.
As Fairfax Media reports, Abbott was recorded singing an a capella version of the song, which is reportedly one of his favourite karaoke tracks, at a Christmas party held by the Nationals on Tuesday night.
Considering Abbott’s stance on immigration, the infighting within his government and ~those~ rumours (you know the ones), Suspicious Minds is a pretty appropriate song for the ex-PM to belt out in his best
castrated Elvis voice.
Fairfax Media say Abbott sung the track twice on the night, with karaoke music behind him the second time, but hearing it just once is probably enough to ruin the song (and the memory of Elvis) forever.
Abbott is known to have performed Suspicious Minds in the past, and the song was also reportedly played at the party in Parliament House on the September night when he was rolled as Liberal leader — the same party in which that famous marble coffee table was smashed. Coincidence?
Catch Abbott’s version of Suspicious Minds below, but be prepared for it to stew away in the depths of your memory for the rest of your life.
WARNING: MAY RUIN ‘SUSPICIOUS MINDS’ AND/OR ELVIS FOR YOU FOREVER
