The Dillinger Escape Plan have once and for all revealed more information on their impending fifth full-length record. To be facilitated through the band’s own record label, Party Smasher Inc., the album has been dubbed One Of Us Is The Killer and the wicked cool artwork can be ogled above.
The band’s vocalist Greg Puciato got deep on the release during an interview, revealing what influenced the direction the mathcore band took while in the studio:
“I can hear [the influence of old punk and hardcore records] a lot. I can definitely hear that in some of the riffs, which are really aggressive. It’s not a blatant hardcore record or anything like that. I actually think this is the most all over the place and weirdest record we’ve ever written. It’s the first one since I joined the band where Ben [Weinberg, Guitar] has sent me songs and I’ve been like, ‘What the f**k is happening? This sounds like a beehive!’”
Dillinger aptly placed producer Steve Evetts (Glassjaw, The Cure, Suicide Silence) at the helm and, as Puciato explained, Evetts had his work cut out for him:
“Dillinger is a different beast in tracking than most normal bands. Even Steve has told me that there’s no other band that he has recorded that requires this amount of attention to detail. We take a longer amount of time to do one thing than most bands take to do ten. At this point, talking to Ben about it, we only do this once every three years on average so ten years from now I don’t want to look back and think, ‘F**k man, we should have finished that one three weeks earlier!’ Who cares? You want it to be right and you want it to be the thing that was the closest to what your vision actually was.”
Though it is yet to be confirmed, as the band members are “all extremely ADD-ish”, Puciato has put a ballpark release date of late March or early April on the album. The band have revealed a slew of headlining shows to take place this year but have also assured us that there will be more in the future, including plenty of overseas dates.
