David Bowie Releases Homemade Video Clip

Despite his inarguable status as one of the biggest and wealthiest living rock stars, the UK’s ‘Best Dressed Man’ David Bowie eschewed the big budgets, celebrity cameos and 5:00am call times of a conventional video shoot for his latest single, Love Is Lost, writing, filming, and editing it himself.

Production took place over this past weekend, with Bowie and his team working through the evenings and finishing up Monday morning to unleash it upon the world. Bowie used puppets from his collection and a hand-held camera, production costs totalling just $12.99 for a thumb drive.

Employing the darkened corridors of his Manhattan office as a set, Bowie assigned cinematography duties to assistant Jimmy King, with best friend Coco Schwab making up the logistics department, covering continuity, sandwiches and general gophering.

The resulting video is an avant-garde gothic tale perfect for Halloween, unveiled last night at the Barclaycard Mercury Prize ceremony. Readers can check out the video below, which features the edited James Murphy remix of Love Is Lost.
