Darren Middleton (Ex-Powderfinger) Working On A Solo Record
Written by Kiel Egging on 2nd January, 2013
It looks like 2013 will be the year where several of the new projects from ex-Powderfinger members come to life.
Following on from news earlier this month that frontman Bernard Fanning is currently in LA prepping his second solo album, guitarist Darren Middleton has revealed that he’s “halfway through” a record of his own.
Middleton posted a message on his personal Facebook profile this weekend, informing fans that he’s switched it to a ‘page’ to fit in with his plans for 2013, which includes a new album. He’s also promptly updated the description of the page, which reads as follows:
After the conclusion of Powderfinger, relocation and much procrastination, I’m halfway through a new record. You can follow the blog and photo’s at http://www.darrenmiddleton.com.
No further clues are apparent, except an update on Middleton’s website saying that he has to keep the project “under wraps for now”.
Middleton released two albums with his side project Drag during Powderfinger downtime in 2002 and 2005 – so it will be interesting to see if he re-emerges under that moniker again. He’s also relocated to Melbourne and joined the team at Red Door Sounds, fronted by Paul ‘Woody’ Annison, who produced Children Collide’s latest album Monument.
Powderfinger split up in November 2010 following their gigantic Sunsets Farewell Tour, which was seen by more than 300,000 punters across the country. Guitarist Ian Haug told punters at the BIGSOUND conference in Brisbane this year that the band “will never do a Farnsie” and reform.
