Damon Albarn: “I Could Put A Gorillaz Album Out Next Week”

Damon Albarn, one half of the creative duo behind Gorillaz, has said that he has enough unfinished material saved up from the musical and visual project, which was reported as going on indefinite hiatus in 2012 following the Plastic Beach tour, that he could release a new album “next week.”

Speaking recently to NME, with whom he also discussed a potential collaboration with Noel Gallagher, Albarn said a follow-up to 2011's The Fall will “definitely happen in the future” and that he can “definitely see another Gorillaz-esque record at some point, yeah. That will almost definitely happen. I could put a Gorillaz record out next week; I’ve got enough stuff I haven’t finished.”

Following the group’s last tour for 2010's Plastic Beach, reports indicated that Albarn and Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett had a falling out. “There are points in every relationship where they fall out with people that they’re close to and then they reconcile, hopefully,” Albarn now tells NME.

“And actually, you know the relationship’s probably in a healthier place as a result of that,” he added. It wouldn’t be the first reconciliation for Albarn, following bad blood in the early ’90s, the singer now says making an album with Noel Gallagher is a “distinct possibility” in the future.
