Cub Sport bandmates Tim Nelson and Sam Netterfield have recounted the story of how they fell in love with each other after being best mates for eight years, and the whole thing is downright heartwarming.
In a new interview with triple j (below), Tim and Sam reveal that despite growing up in religious families, their love blossomed as they continued to work on music together.
“Since the end of high school, we just became the best of friends,” says Sam.
“First year out of school, we worked and then we travelled together. All the while we’ve been in a band together.”
Meanwhile, Tim says it wasn’t until he went away for a month that he realised just how much he missed his bandmate.
“It was the longest that we had been apart,” he says. “I guess it was really the catalyst for me recognising that there was a reason I was so miserable when I wasn’t around Sam.”
The guys say that because they’re in a band, they believe they can “use that to help make a positive change”. Watch their full interview, below.
Tim and Sam announced their engagement in July this year, only a few months after Cub Sport responded to some gross homophobic comments that were left on their Facebook page.
The band have since slammed the government’s same-sex marriage postal vote as “cruel”, while revealing that they’re hoping to get married next year.
Cub Sport’s latest album, BATS is set for release on 22nd September.
