We could be in for a Hole reunion. For reals this time.
Courtney Love jumped the gun by announcing a reunion of the band’s classic Celebrity Skin lineup back in 2014, which landed her in hot water with her former bandmates and culminated in the promised reunion never actually going down.
But that could be about to change, according to a new Instagram post from the first lady of grunge.
C-Love has uploaded a selfie alongside bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur and drummer Patty Schemel, and captioned it: “With the girls, serving up a Hole lot of something.”
Pun game on point, Courtney.
The women in the picture make up three-quarters of the band that recorded the seminal 1998 album Celebrity Skin. The other quarter – guitarist Eric Erlandson – isn’t in the shot, but Love’s tagged him anyway.
While the past has taught us to take a lot of what the former Mrs. Kurt Cobain says with a grain of salt, visual documentation of the classic lineup hanging out seems to be a promising sign, especially after Auf Der Maur recently spoke out, expressing a desire to get the old band back together, raid their archives and release a series of rarity records.
But Love has also previously trashed the idea of reuniting with her old band mates, specifying that she didn’t want to become part of the “oldies circuit”.
Whatever happens, let’s just pray that she’s been brushing up on her guitar skills.
