News team, assemble! A group of Melbourne’s finest tunesmiths have gone full Anchorman in Fraser A. Gorman‘s new music video for Shiny Gun.
The country/folk singer-songwriter has recruited Courtney Barnett, Davey Lane and Angus Agars to portray a ragtag group of TV news anchors in post-hippie era Canberra (which of course as we all know, in German, means ‘a whale’s vagina’).
“In August 1972, four journalists from Canberra News Ch5 (Australia) were sacked for being ‘unprofessional’,” the introductory title cards tell us. “They went on to form a band.”
In the adorable sequence of events that unfold, Gorman (whom I think we can all agree has a voice that could make a wolverine purr and suits so fine they make Sinatra look like a hobo) sings to a chicken at his news desk, a gloomy Davey Lane begrudgingly forecasts wet weather, while an entirely no-damn-giving Courtney Barnett flat out refuses to do a sports update, despite being pelted with a pigskin.
Luckily, the day is saved thanks to an impromptu 70s-style news broadcast jam session.
Check out the clip for Shiny Gun, from Gorman’s forthcoming album Slow Gum (out Friday July 3rd), below.
