Courtney Barnett, Adalita, Gareth Liddiard Covering ‘My Generation’ Is Brilliantly Wild

In October Courtney Barnett, Jen Cloher, Adalita and Gareth Liddiard celebrated forty years since Patti Smith‘s seminal album Horses with a one-off performance at Melbourne Town Hall and now footage has emerged of their rousing finale.

The four of them delivered a raucous version of Patti Smith’s version of The Who’s My Generation, leaving literally everything on the stage during the Melbourne Festival performance.

Barnett, Cloher, Adalita and Liddiard take to the mic one after the other, each seemingly attempting to scream harder. It seems everything is left on the stage with Barnett even left yelling on the floor by song’s end.

The whole show, which is well worth a watch, has been on YouTube for a little while now but it was missing this encore. The encore is the first time the four of them come together and while all the performances are special, there’s something magnetic about this one in particular.

This is another badge on Courtney Barnett’s jacket in 2015 which has seen her enjoy phenomenal success thanks to her record Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit. The record is now Grammy nominated.
